These camera bird boxes have been in place for over 3 years so the wood has become weathered. Because they are made from (PEFC certified) Western Red Cedar they do not need to be treated as the natural oils will act as a preservative

Some other types of camera nest boxes available on the market today are made from Pine which requires painting with a water based preservative.
